Now I always ask: “Is this for a closed loop with ferrous metals?” If yes, go inhibited. Per ASTM E2637, inhibited formulations should pass the standard corrosion test.

4. What are silicone trivets, and do I need Sika’s sealant to make them?

Silicone trivets are those heat-resistant pads you put under hot pots. They’re usually made of food-grade silicone, not building sealants. (Thankfully, otherwise your pasta would taste like construction caulk.)

I get this question because people search “silicone” and see Sika’s sealant line. Sika does sell silicone-based sealants (e.g., SikaLastomer-15) for kitchens and bathrooms, but the trivet itself is a consumer product.
