  • All-purpose silicone adhesives in general – if you need resistance to fuels, solvents, or extreme heat, don't use a standard silicone. Use a two-part polymer system or a high-temperature silicone.
  • SikaFlex construction adhesives – they can gap-fill well, but on non-porous surfaces like glazed tile or metal, you need their specific primer. Skipping that step = adhesion failure within months.

The Data That Backs Up My Claims

I don't just rely on my own mistakes. According to ASTM C920 (Standard Specification for Elastomeric Joint Sealants), a sealant must maintain its adhesion and elasticity after 500 hours of accelerated weathering. Many 'all purpose' silicones don't meet Class 25 (25% movement) required for concrete joints.
